Before critical labor legislation was signed into law in the 1930s, the Industrial Revolution was a notoriously difficult time for workers. As manufacturing technology was booming, many workers moved and sought work in big cities. With machines and large corporations dictating the work, this period in history can be characterized by long hours, minimal protections for workers, excruciating labor, dangerous working conditions, and child labor.
Cathleen Scott, board-certified employment law attorney, breaks down what the workplace looked like before basic labor laws such as the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938) and the NLRA (National Labor Relations Act of 1935) went into effect, and how progress was made to enact the foundational labor laws that are still incredibly important today.

Many Fortune 100 companies have halted use of language like "DEI" or "racial diversity" in their public filings. Additionally, corporate sponsorship of Pride Month has rapidly declined, creating a funding challenge for many movements in various cities across the US.
Cathleen Scott, board-certified employment law attorney, dives into the explanation and possible implications of this corporate shift. What does it really mean to have a fair and diverse workplace? Is the heavy politicization and polarization of DEI justified, or is it a simple beneficial concept that could help workplace mitigate implicit bias in their hiring practices?

Following the murder of controversial political figure Charlie Kirk, a wave of free-speech court cases emerged. Many public employees were terminated or subject to adverse employment action following comments they made on their personal social media accounts regarding Kirk's views.
Public employees have special rights as it relates to what they can and cannot be terminated for. Unlike private employees, public employees have protected rights to speech in their personal capacity so long as it doesn't disrupt operations or organizational efficiency.

Minecraft is an open-world game in which players can freely build and break blocks to build anything they imagine. Unexpectedly, it has also become the platform in which a virtual library was built, to deliver censored material to vulnerable countries in which access to information is limited.
